Biography

Nick Pope was a British civil servant who worked for the Ministry of Defence and, from 1991 to 1994, served in the section responsible for handling UFO reports and related policy questions. He later became one of Britain's most prominent public commentators on UFO/UAP, writing books and appearing frequently in broadcast media.

Pope died in April 2026. UAPRAD's current index should therefore treat the profile as historical rather than “former official” in a present-tense public-commentator sense.

Role in the UAP Topic

Pope's government role has often been sensationalised as running a secret “UFO project.” The more accurate description is that he worked on the MoD desk receiving and assessing UFO reports for possible defence significance.
