Regional wave
Reports clustered in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties and adjacent Connecticut. Common features were large multi-light formations, low apparent altitude, slow motion, hovering and near-silence.
Formation-flying identification
Police and investigators traced multiple formations to Stormville pilots. Tight arrangements, coloured external lights and dark undersides created a single-object illusion. Pilots acknowledged the activity and some continued demonstration flights after public identification.
Residual reports
Some accounts describe close solid structure, long hover or conditions less easily matched to aircraft formations. They are fewer and less consistently documented than the mid-distance light reports.
What the record establishes
- A broad multi-year civilian and police reporting wave occurred.
- Stormville formation flying was documented for a large fraction.
- Aggregate witness totals do not indicate one object.
- No decisive sensor record proves a single extraordinary solid craft.
