The 2014–2015 Record

Broader squadron reports

East Coast aviators later described recurring unidentified radar contacts after radar upgrades, including concerns about objects in training airspace. Ryan Graves has described a near-miss involving a dark cube within a sphere. This account is important for flight safety, but it is not recorded in either released video and must not be used as an identification of their targets.

GOFAST

The January 2015 infrared clip shows a small target over water whose screen path looks rapid. AARO’s analysis uses the display geometry to show that the aircraft’s own motion produces much of that apparent motion. Its central reconstruction places the target at ordinary speed, with uncertainty from incomplete aircraft-position and atmospheric data; neither an extreme speed nor a specific object identification is established.

GIMBAL

GIMBAL records a distant infrared target while aircrew discuss wind and additional contacts. The released clip does not display the claimed “fleet,” nor does it fix range sufficiently to determine size or absolute speed. Apparent rotation can arise when a bright infrared glare pattern changes as the pod’s optical system rotates; that is a plausible mechanism, not a final public identification.

How the Roosevelt Story Developed

The original operational reports, later aircrew testimony and two released sensor clips became a single popular narrative after public release. The analytical task is to restore the distinctions: a short infrared clip is not a radar record, a pilot reaction is not a technical measurement, and a recurring-report pattern does not prove all reported objects were alike.

Evidence Assessment & Hypotheses

Within the public record of the USS Roosevelt Gimbal and GoFast encounters of 2014–2015 there are few elements more central, yet more carefully bounded, than the authenticated Navy infrared videos and the broader pattern of pilot reports from the same period. GoFast is the better-constrained of the two videos: geometric analysis demonstrates that the dramatic apparent speed is largely parallax, and the residual motion is consistent with ordinary wind-driven objects. Gimbal remains more ambiguous because range is uncertain and the infrared appearance is dominated by processing and possible glare; a distant conventional aircraft remains a viable interpretation, as does an unidentified object whose absolute performance cannot be fixed from the public clip alone. The broader squadron reports establish that upgraded sensors and East Coast training airspace produced a sustained pattern of unusual contacts that pilots found operationally concerning; they do not, by themselves, identify the objects. Safety and reporting-procedure implications are independent of any single exotic interpretation.

The GoFast video

Navy aircrew recorded infrared footage of a thermal target that appears to move rapidly across the ocean surface. Geometric reconstruction (including official analysis) shows that the apparent high speed is substantially accounted for by parallax relative to the observing aircraft; residual motion is consistent with a slow, wind-driven object. The video is authentic. The initial impression of extreme speed is not supported by the public geometric analysis.

The Gimbal video

Navy aircrew recorded infrared footage of a compact thermal source that appears to rotate while remaining relatively stationary against the background. Range is not fixed by the public clip. The infrared appearance is consistent with exhaust glare or sensor processing effects; the apparent rotation may be an artefact of pod derotation. A distant conventional aircraft remains a viable interpretation. Absolute kinematics cannot be determined from the released footage alone.

Broader pattern of pilot reports

Multiple pilots (including Ryan Graves and others) reported a sustained pattern of unusual radar and visual contacts after radar upgrades on the East Coast. Near-miss reports and descriptions of cube-in-sphere or long-duration tracks form part of this pattern. The existence of the reporting pattern is established. Raw radar data largely remain unreleased, and individual objects remain uncharacterised in the public record.
