The "Mudinho" Identification

The official inquiry proposed Luiz Antônio de Paula, a local resident known as Mudinho, as the likely stimulus.

Strengths

• He was known to crouch or sit near walls in the neighbourhood.
• Wet and muddy conditions could alter his appearance.
• A disability or unusual posture could be misinterpreted during a brief frightening view.
• The witnesses initially described a devil-like figure rather than a technological entity.
• The explanation requires no unknown organism.

Weaknesses

• The precise evidence placing him at the location and time is not publicly decisive.
• The reported red eyes and head ridges do not obviously match an ordinary person.
• The women reportedly maintained that they would have recognised a local resident.
• The strong smell and body proportions remain disputed.
• The identification was reconstructed later.

The explanation is plausible but not conclusively demonstrated.

Animal Misidentification

An injured or wet animal has also been proposed.

Candidates discussed in the wider literature include primates, capybara or another local animal viewed from an unusual angle.

Strengths

• Wet fur can look oily or skin-like.
• Eyeshine can appear red.
• A frightened or injured animal may crouch near a wall.
• Body posture can appear humanoid briefly.

Weaknesses

• The women described a relatively human-like figure.
• No animal was identified at the site.
• Head ridges and reported limb proportions do not map cleanly onto one candidate.

Memory Convergence

The women were repeatedly interviewed together or discussed as a trio.

Over time:

• uncertain details can become shared;
• one witness's vocabulary can replace another's;
• artwork can influence memory;
• later recovery claims can be read back into the original scene;
• media summaries can erase differences.

A strong dossier should compare Xavier's earliest available words with later interviews rather than presenting a composite creature.

Relationship to Recovery Claims

No public physical evidence connects Xavier's sighting to:

• military capture;
• hospital confinement;
• Chereze's infection;
• biological material;
• an aerial crash;
• US involvement.

The fact that military vehicles and hospital activity occurred in the city does not establish that they concerned the figure she saw.

Sincerity

The women's fear appears to have been genuine or convincingly immediate.

Sincerity supports that Xavier believed she saw something highly unusual. It does not determine whether the cause was:

• a person;
• an animal;
• a perceptual error;
• a hoax;
• an unknown biological organism.
