Overview

The disc is the most recognisable visual form in modern UFO history, but the label covers reports made under very different conditions. Some witnesses described a resolved structure; others reported a distant light, an oval seen at an angle or a shape reconstructed after the event.

Observation and identification

A circular object viewed obliquely may appear oval, while glare can enlarge a bright source and obscure its underlying form. The strongest reports preserve an early description, viewing geometry and independent documentation.

The earliest wording, sketches and recordings carry greater evidential weight than later labels or illustrations.

Evidence assessment

Disc reports are historically persistent, and several cases preserve photographs or early witness records. Those materials support analysis of particular incidents; they do not demonstrate that the disc label identifies one recurring object or cause.
